Fund Established for the Benefit of Lawrence County, Kentucky
The newly formed Lawrence County Community Fund announces its formation. The Fund has received initial gifts of over $2,000. The Fund is a component fund of the Foundation for the Tri-State Community (FTSC) and comes as a product of the Appalachian Rural Development Philanthropy Initiative (ARDPI), a campaign committed to helping the distressed counties of eastern Kentucky capture long-term resources for community transformation.
FTSC is a full-service community foundation that has been working for over 40 years to improve the quality of life in eastern Kentucky, southwestern West Virginia and southern Ohio. The Fund’s Advisory Board consists of residents of Lawrence County. FTSC and the Fund’s Advisory Board hope to collect donations to form a permanent source of money that could be given out in grants to nonprofits serving the county. The Fund will raise money with the goal of providing mini-grants to be awarded to Lawrence County nonprofit organizations.
"We are very pleased to be a part of the ARDPI and Lawrence County initiative," said FTSC President Mary Witten Wiseman. "With such a rich historical, agricultural and arts culture, Lawrence County has the ability to develop significant funds to benefit their community for future generations. We have chosen to work in Lawrence County because of its evident commitment to building philanthropic resources for the citizens of tomorrow."
Residents, visitors and long-distance natives of Lawrence County may become local philanthropists by making a gift to the Lawrence County Community Fund or by establishing designated funds to benefit the county. Together, these gifts will build a permanent resource for local grant making, scholarship, and community-funded opportunities. The distributions of the Fund will be confined to purposes benefitting the people of Lawrence County. FTSC pledges its expertise and best practices in maintaining these funds for the benefit of Lawrence County.
Upcoming Lawrence County Community Fund events, educational sessions and giving opportunities will be announced in the coming months. Lawrence County Advisory Board members and FTSC staff are available to meet with area citizens wishing to learn more about this opportunity or to make a contribution.
