2017 Carter County Community Fund Grants Announced

2017 CARTER COUNTY COMMUNITY FUND GRANTS

CARTER COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY……………………………………………………$500.00

IT’S NOT JUST KID STUFF!
Though the Carter County Library has been successful in acquiring a lot of contemporary juvenile literature and films through previous CCCF grant opportunities, they would like to shift their focus to acquiring more material that will attract adult patrons.  This grant will purchase hobby and do-it-yourself manuals to capitalize on the DIY trend fueled by sites such as Pinterest.

CARTER COUNTY SCHOOLS………………………………………………………………$500.00

HISTORIC MURAL RESTORATION IN OLIVE HILL
West Carter High School student artists will join forces with professional artists to restore the community mural at the Olive Hill Historical Society property.  The existing mural has been damaged by years and rough weather, and the refresh will give the community’s visual history a new life.  Over the summer months, artists will collaborate to clean and repaint the mural, sealing the work to protect the mural for years to come.

FRIENDS OF THE CARTER COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY………………………………...$500.00

KEEPING UP WITH THE TIMES
This grant will provide funds for the Library to receive fourteen new books per month from the Junior Library Guild, increasing the number of books in circulation.  With an increase in circulation, the Library hopes to engage more library patrons and promote literacy in the County.

GIRL SCOUTS OF KY WILDERNESS ROAD, CARTER COUNTY SERVICE UNIT……$500.00

BUSINESS PROJECTOR
This grant will fund the purchase of a projector for the Carter County Girl Scout Service Unit.  The Carter County Girl Scout troops work together for cookie sales, trainings, ceremonies, etc.  When the troops are gathered together, a projector will enable them to use training videos and power point presentations to enhance their training experiences.  In addition to being used in the large group setting, the projector will be available for use by all the Carter County Girl Scout troops.

GRAYSON GALLERY & ART CENTER, INC………………………………………………$600.00

SOUND EQUIPMENT FOR MUSIC SHOWCASES
In addition to showcasing locally produced visual art, the Gallery frequently showcases live musical performances.  Currently, without an in-house sound system, performers must bring their own equipment, which means there are lots of technical difficulties and inconsistent sound quality. This grant will fund the purchase of two high quality speakers to help ensure consistent quality equipment for the artists who perform each month at the Gallery and the patrons who attend the shows.
