Attention Greenup County ‘Green Thumbs’:
Greenup County Green Fund Wants Your Ideas
Ashland, Ky (01/30/2007) The Greenup County Green Fund is seeking ideas that will improve or enhance the natural beauty of Greenup County, according to Mary Witten Wiseman, president of the Foundation for the Tri-State Community.
“If your organization or club has a great idea and a ‘green thumb,’ this fund for Greenup countians is looking for you,” said Wiseman. “The fund was established by a Greenup County native who has enjoyed the area’s natural beauty all her life.
“This fund was established so that financial support is available for a group or groups that will carry out a project that will enhance the county’s natural beauty,” Wiseman explained. “Application materials are available now and must be returned by March 31, 2007.”
In 2006, recipients of Greenup County Green Fund awards were Greenup County High School and the Girl Scouts Wilderness Road Council. The high school project, which received $500, included planting butterfly and hummingbird native wildflowers in front of the Jesse Stuart Lodge and painting benches and trashcans with Kentucky themes along the Fern Valley Trail at Greenbo Lake State Park. The Girl Scouts, with its $200 award, planted trees, replanted flower beds at nursing homes and helped with landscaping at schools.
More information is available from the foundation at (606) 324-3888 or an application may be picked up at the foundation offices on the second floor of 1999 Winchester Avenue in Ashland. Awards are expected to be determined in mid-April. The Foundation for the Tri-State Community, Inc. is a community foundation serving eastern Kentucky, southern Ohio and southwestern West Virginia. It is the area's only community foundation.
