Three recipients shared the Greenup County Green Fund award in 2004. McKell Elementary School second and third graders helped prepare this attractive display at the South Shore Rotary Park. Other recipients were the Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital Foundation, for the hospital's 50th Anniversary Beautification Day, and the Heritage Arts, Science & Tourism Center, McConnell House Historic Garden Project.
The Greenup County Green Fund is not just for "green thumbs," says Mary Witten Wiseman, president of the Foundation for the Tri-State Community, Inc.
"This is a very special fund that provides financial support for a selected group or groups that wish to improve and enhance the natural environment of Greenup County," Wiseman says. Detailed application information is available from the foundation at (606) 324-3888 or may be picked up at the foundation offices at 1401 Winchester Avenue in downtown Ashland.
In previous years, Greenup County groups have been awarded the grants to restore landscapes at historic homes, enhance community parks, and to aid in school beautification efforts. Last year, three recipients shared the Greenup County Green Fund award. McKell Elementary School second and third graders beautified the South Shore Rotary Park, the Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital Foundation celebrated the hospital's 50th Anniversary with a Beautification Day, and the McConnell House conducted a historic herb garden project.
The deadline for application is March 31, 2005. Awards are expected to be made by April 30, 2005.
The Foundation for the Tri-State Community, Inc. is a community foundation serving Eastern Kentucky, southern Ohio and southwestern West Virginia. It is the area's only community foundation.
