21st Century Endowment Fund Grants

The Foundation for the Tri-State Community, Inc., makes grants through the 21st Century Endowment Fund for educational, cultural, scientific and other charitable purposes in the tri-state area. The Foundation seeks to respond to a wide variety of needs in the community.

Grant applications are reviewed by the Grant Advisory Committee with the final distributions approved by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. The size and number of grants awarded are directly related to the amount of money available each year from the 21st Century Endowment. Grants usually range between $250 and
$5,000. Click here to contact us to apply for a grant.

GRANT GUIDELINES

Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charities and other organizations that meet our special charitable grant guidelines.  Project proposals must serve residents of the tri-state area, which includes Boyd and Greenup counties in Kentucky, Cabell and Wayne counties in West Virginia, and Lawrence County, Ohio.

The Foundation always accepts requests for funding, with application deadlines of January 15, April 15, July 15, and October 15 of each year.  (If the 15th falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the deadline will be the following Monday.) Organizations may submit only one application per funding cycle for grants from the 21st Century Endowment Fund. Organizations that have recently been awarded a grant from the 21st Century Endowment Fund should wait at least 12 months from the approval of their award to submit another request for funding.

The 21st Century Endowment grants do not provide funding for components of projects begun before grant award decisions are made.  While the Foundation remains flexible in trying to meet
community needs, the following areas will generally not be considered for funding from the 21st Century Endowment Fund:

    • General operating support
    • Endowment funds
    • Operational deficits
    • Individuals
    • Political purposes
    • Sectarian activities of religious organizations

Please contact the Foundation to obtain a copy of our grant application and to discuss your proposed project. The Foundation staff will endeavor to assist you in crafting a successful proposal.

Open Door Playground

With a $3,000 grant from the Foundation's 21st Century Endowment Fund to the Lawrence County Board of MRDD, a new playground was constructed by community volunteers. The Ashland Inc. Donor Advised Fund contributed $500 toward the cause.
