Greenup County Green Fund
Looking For Some “Green Ideas”

 January 23, 2006 — Ashland, Ky.

Have a great idea for a project that will improve or enhance the natural environment of Greenup County? Have a group in mind that can carry out that idea?
The Foundation for the Tri-State Community is looking for those ideas, according to Mary Witten Wiseman, president of the foundation. The foundation has a very special fund – The Greenup County Green Fund – that provides financial support for a group or groups that will carry out a project it believes will enhance the county’s natural beauty.
In 2005, three groups shared the fund’s award. The Greenup County Master Gardeners’ Association carried out two projects at Greenbo State Park, the Heritage Arts, Science and Tourism Center used funds to plant a wildflower garden at the McConnell House, and the Stan Spencer Little League did landscaping and beautification at its ballpark. In prior years, awards have enhanced community parks, made possible school beautification efforts, and established historic herb gardens.
Detailed application information is available from the foundation at (606) 324-3888 or may be picked up at the foundation offices on the second floor of 1999 Winchester Avenue in Ashland. The deadline for application is March 31, 2006. Awards are expected to be made by April 30, 2006.
The Foundation for the Tri-State Community, Inc. is a community foundation serving eastern Kentucky, southern Ohio and southwestern West Virginia. It is the area's only community foundation.
