Fifty-three charitable organizations in the tri-state are receiving $75,000 in grants this year from the Ashland Inc. Donor Advised Fund of the Foundation for the Tri-State Community, Inc., according to Mary Witten Wiseman, president of the foundation.

According to Wiseman, this is the seventh year in which the Ashland Inc. Donor Advised Fund has made significant grants to area charities. In the seven years of the fund's existence, it has made donations totaling more than $2,350,000.

"It is noteworthy that the Ashland employees who advise on the direction of the contributions also are active in numerous community support activities themselves," said Wiseman. "Ashland's employees serve in a number of capacities in area charities and quality of life organizations. As such, they see first-hand the needs of our area.

"The recipients, again this year, represent a broad spectrum of charitable, educational and cultural projects that are making our tri-state area a better place to live," she said. "With funds such as this, it is clear that the Foundation for the Tri-State Community is truly 'our community's foundation.'"

With assets of more than $12 million, the Foundation for the Tri-State Community is the tri-state's only community foundation. Its primary mission is to improve quality of life by raising, encouraging, administering, and distributing gifts for charitable, educational and scientific purposes.
