- Healthy Communities/Healthy Youth
- The Healthy Communities/Healthy Youth initiative is based upon the 40 Developmental Asset framework or model. This model has identified the building blocks (assets) necessary for healthy development of our youth. This grant will provide funds to train a core team in the development asset framework and how to develop and implement a community initiative. This grant is funded, in part, by the Boyd County Fund.

- "Mother Nurture" Feeding Stations
- This grant will help provide funding for this new program, which will serve to develop heightened public awareness of the benefits of breast feeding to mothers in the tri-state area. The "Mother Nurture" stations will set up at local malls as well as at local county fairs and other community events. These "manned" stations will provide not only privacy for nursing and changing, but all mothers will have access to a trained nursing staff, as well as leave with a variety of written materials on child and maternal health and nutrition.

- Confidential Filing System
- This grant will be used to help purchase a new filing system for the Health Department. This grant is contingent upon the Health Department raising the necessary additional funds.
STEPPING STONES, INC... West Virginia

- Residential Worker Training
- This grant will be used to help fund a collaborative effort between area agencies to provide quality training for workers in residential settings who provide direct care for children in crisis, high-risk adolescents and adults with disabilities. Additionally, this program will provide employment opportunities for people who fall into the category of the "working poor," unemployed and/or dislocated workers and TANF recipients by providing full time employment, benefits and a career path.

- Automated External Defibrillator Training Program
- This grant will fund the purchase of three AED trainers to allow the Red Cross to continue to develop this program in the tri-state area.
APPALACHIAN FOOTHILLS HOUSING AGENCY, INC. Kentucky

- Greenup County Group Work Camp
- Group Work Camp is a weeklong, home-repair project involving approximately 400 volunteers from across the United States. These volunteers spend five days in the community repairing between 60 to 70 homes. This grant will cover the cost of the paint & supplies needed, as well as the utilities cost. This grant is contingent upon the confirmation that the camp will take place in the summer of 2002.

- Read Aloud West Virginia
- This grant will provide books for the Read Aloud program in Cabell and Wayne Counties. It will also provide supplies for the Read To Me Day in November 2001.

- Laptop Computer Check-out Program
- This grant will be used to purchase two laptop computers to be used in the C-K Middle School After School Program. This programs benefits students from C-K Middle School, Ceredo Elementary and Kenova Elementary in Wayne County, West Virginia.

- This grant will help fund "An Evening of Ragtime", a coordinated effort between Artists In Concert, Ashland Community College and the Highlands Museum and Discovery Center. This event will focus on the music of Scott Joplin and his influence on the development of popular music.

- This grant will be used to purchase a hydraulic lift, which will allow individuals who use wheelchairs to have more privacy and access in the restroom.

- Located in Greenup County, the goal of this program is to expose clientele with needs to the therapeutic benefits of horses. This grant will provide funds for program/lesson expense, building/facility expense and contract services.

- Youth Tobacco Education Program
- The health department proposes to reduce the use of tobacco products by the youth of Greenup County. This grant will be used to purchase educational materials for the Tobacco Education Group and the Tobacco Awareness Program (TEG/TAP).

- Workplace-Based Adult Screening Program
- This pilot project will seek out business leaders who are interested in the workforce implications of vision problems and who have the authority to commit staff resources to and employee participation in this project. This grant will provide full funding for Adult Vision Education materials and partial funding for screener training in area businesses.

- This innovative program provides interdisciplinary experience in the arts for students whose prior exposure to music and visual arts is limited. This grant will provide transportation to allow students in Lawrence County, OH and Greenup County, KY to participate this program.

- Community Day: Health & Safety Fair
- This grant will provide 20 car seats to be distributed at the health & safety fair. Kits, including a variety of necessary items for children and their parents, will also be distributed.

- Arts In Education
- Located in Greenup County, Worthington Elementary is the only 4-6 intermediate school in the Raceland-Worthington School District. This grant will provide supplies and consultant fees to bring in area artists to instruct the students in the arts.
